Adv Mario De Loyola Furtado. Memorial Social Centre A Library has been opened and inaugurated on 8.Setember, 2010 It is said that Mr Simon Fernandes, has taken up the responsibility of running the same. News papers, periodicals , magazines. etc, will be made available in the first instance. The timings declared are 8.am. to 10.30 a,m.and from 4.30p.m to 7.30.pm. The social centre will be aviable for parties and meetings on hire , perhaps to meet the running costs. It is situated at the heart of Chinchinim Market, and the owners have not been tempted to exploit market potential., commanding a stiff price. Even though it was closed for the last 10 years plus, their awoved aim, as the one of the best fitting memorial to their father and for the cause of the village has not been diluted in the least and it is very praise worthy gesture that deserves appreciation from the Chinchinim village. It may be recalled that 20 years back this social centre was opened for the same purpose, with much funfare and grandiose plans, that were outlandish in its approach right from the start. and it was destined to fail. Many villagers subscribed voluntarily for the funiture, and other reading material It came down crashing with a whimper and was folded without accountability.and the owners rightly called back the leased premises. It is earnestluy hopesd that this attempt will not be duplicate rerun of a very short life after the gestation period. It is already rumoured about the morning and late evening timings, which it is hoped will merrit a rethinking in its outreach The convenience of its Central location is a plus point, which should make it a popular centre There is a Govt. Library in the close vicinity, which is being up dated with books Periodicals Magazines, furniture , lights, closing of the verandha with grills, painting and flooring. There are plans afoot to provide free internet acces. I had arranged FOR TWO COMPUTERS on arranging the internet connection, for which the Govt would pay. The Govt. Library is well patronised with membership and students are using it regularly for assignments The opening of a second Library in Chinchinim is the barometer of enlightened citizens of the village and indicative of their reading habbits, specially in the age ,when the internet, mobiles, telivision have virtually killed the reading interest of Books etc The Chinchinim Villagers do appreciate this thoughtfull, initiative from the individual and wish him success.
