The great maestro of twisting words and misrepresenting people is at it again. In Goanet Digest, Vol 7, Issue 788 message 7. he attacks me for what I wrote in the last paragraph of 'What if Our Water Sources Are Polluted.'
I again advise Goanet readers to learn from the master how to fraudulently misrepresent a writer's words so that he can indulge himself in his favourite pastime of vilifying people for his vicarious pleasure. This was my original message: 'Water bodies run through most of the mines.' They have polluted our basic need. This I feel most daring and hurting statement made in Shah commission. What is your choice. My reply to him was as follows: Dear Shrikant, More than mining, more than tourism, water could have been the most important economic resource of Goa in a world where water is more and more becoming a scarce resource. But this will never be. The big mine owners have seen to the destruction of the hinterland of Goa where this water source lies. Then, one may ask: do not the mine owning people themselves require this water? How can they cut their own throats by destroying a resource like water without which humankind cannot live? The answer is simple. The mine-owners do not live in the hinterland where the water table is being contaminated. So they care two hoots if the fields and water tables of these people are destroyed. So from where will they get the water they need for themselves and the tourism projects and building projects where they have invested their money? The answer is in the Tillari project water in Dodamarg district of Maharashtra, of which is already flowing into Goa. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilari_Dam in future the habitat of people in the hinterlands will be destroyed, indeed much of it already is. So cannot our politicians intervene and put a stop to it. Unfortunately no. Politicians of all hues are heavily indebted to the mine-owners to get elected including the current Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. Of course former pillagers like Digambar Kamat and Pratapsingh Rane may be immediately indicted. (Personally I doubt this will ever happen. If they want to nail Digu or Rane, they will first have to prove culpability of the mine-owners, a risk that Parrikar cannot afford.) What can we do about this? Nothing my dear Shrikant. Everybody but everybody has been bought over by the capitalists including you and me. So what should we do? The answer is simple. Do you know what women are sometimes advised to do when rape is inevitable? - ' Lie back and enjoy it'. That's the only option that makes any sense given a populace which does not even know they are being raped. A populace which will anytime give their right hands to be in the place of the politicians and mine-owners. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... As anyone can see I am trying to bring to the public's attention that the water sources of Goa are being polluted to satisfy the greed of the mine-owners and other capitalists. I don't think anyone can miss the irony and sarcasm of the last paragraph. And I'm sure jc can understand this very well. Yet to get some attention from me, jc chooses to distort what I wrote by taking it out of context and use the paragraph to attack me. Any reasonable person knows the intention of the paragraph is to focus on the horror of what is going on, and the way the people are being deprived of one of the most important natural resources they have. But jc is not particularly reasonable and chooses to slant what I say, perhaps to assuage his pathological need to deride other people. What is one to do? Sometimes I feel it is better to just withdraw from Goanet instead of having to constantly waste time issuing clarifications to counter this sort of insidious calumny. But then this would gratify his precious ego even more, isn't it? For the information of Goanetters, jc has also taken to sending me private messages which are even more disgusting, in order to harass me and induce me to say something intemperate. So far I have tried to resist this impulse but how long am I to bear the immaturity of this supposedly learned man? In disgust.
