Aires Rodrigues' post in Goanet Digest Vol 7 issue 829 on the above subject
needs to be amplified so as to arouse public interest in order to ensure that
the Parrikar Government appoints a person of the utmost integrity,
independent, strong in character, willing to stand up to the challenges,
unafraid of any big wig who threatens. A person who cannot be bought by bribery
or maneuvered by politicians. This person should have the power to investigate
and reveal all and any instances of corruption and misadministration from the
Chief Minister down to the Peon. To ensure transparency, the Lokayukta should
have the sole power without any interference to appoint his own staff otherwise
politicians will maneuver investigations if they infiltrate this process.

This appointment and rules regarding staffing will determine whether the
Parrikar Government is truly serious in its sworn goal to eliminate corruption,
or just paying lip service in order to hoodwink the public. If it is shown that
they are not genuine in their assertions, we the people must vote them out of
office the next election and ensure that we elect the right people to do the
people's job in the people's assembly.

Manuel (Eddie) Tavares.
