“What joy be there in day that follows day, with death its only goal”. These
words of the ancient Greek playwright, Sophocles, came hauntingly close to
reality as I paid respect to my dear deceased. It was at my village cemetery on
‘All Souls Day’ that has just gone by.

Though seemingly fatalistic, these words do bear witness to lives that have
been cut short by a hand that wields power beyond human comprehension. A hand
that, at times chooses to make quick death an honourable exit, and makes us
believe so. I did exactly that, as I remembered my son, whose joy did not last
beyond twenty-three of his life.
