Ana Maria Fernandes is one of those who contribute faithfully to the wellbeing
of the church which is commendable. I agree with her that the Church in Goa has
amassed such immense wealth by virtue of families bequeathing their entire
properties to the church and the income derived from these properties also the
various donations received from the Diaspora throughout the world which in many
cases amounts to a considerable sum that it is a shame that they ask for
additional funds to build retirement home for retired priests. I think that an
audit of ALL the Churches should be conducted in order to establish what the
current state of affairs is and also to weed out dishonest priests ( Believe
you me there are many such crooks in the church who are known to have utilized
church funds to marry off their relatives etc) and make them accountable and
also establish the true wealth of the church. This should be an on going
process so as to ensure that there is no hanky panky going on.The Archbishop
should have a robust and incorrigible audit department to ensure the
accountability of all funds coming into church coffers. Let us see what this
will produce. Then if found wanting, the congregations can be asked to provide
funds for Homes for retired priests.
