This was an informative - plus/minus - article on this subject, until, in my
view, an Animal Rights Activist was brought into the picture. I took
constructive objection and wrote a rebuttal letter to the Editor, for
publication. It is now 15 days without action by the Herald and I wonder if
this is a case of shielding one's own from criticism; or am I expecting too
speedy due attention from the Editor and the rebuttal will appear in due course.
What do you think? What are your experiences with letters to the Herald
Editor?

To: The Editor, Herald.
Ref. Emu on the Menu – Herald – 30th JANUARY:

The American Heart Assoc, the American Medical Assoc, The USD of Agriculture,
several 2-yr. completed studies by various Universities in the US, Australia
and Europe, The American Emu Assoc, The American Assoc. of Nutritionists &
Dieticians, The American Nat. Academy of Sciences, - all of these and more have
found, categorically, that: Emu Meat is a nutritional goldmine, a super food
for the heart and of the new millennium, the meat for the heart for all health
conscious and diet restricted consumers and many more such superlatives.

How does the unsubstantiated, biased and contrary, statements by an animal
rights activist stack up against those Professionals and their studied
findings? Examine the ‘comparative charts’ they have published against the
biased outbursts by the Activist, whose published passion is far removed from
this subject!

The article and interview were premised on Emu for the Menu, from a health and
dietary perspective – it had nothing to do with the life or death of the animal
rights of poultry bred for the table and for commerce.

The reporter should have tested the proposition by seeking the views of
Nutritionists, medical practitioners, cardiologists, dietitians and the such as
was done very appropriately in a previous article by this paper – Emu Meat – A
Healthy Option dated October 25, 2012. See those comments!

SCAM artists abound in ALL businesses, in government and in online buy/sell
opportunities. Huge banking scams have, in recent years, decimated the
economies of major countries and individual investors. Have we as a result
reverted to hiding our savings under bed-mattresses? NO! Because the banking
concept and services are not the culprit – the greedy executives were/are the
con-artists. Similarly in the Susi Emu Scam – this, 100%, beneficial bird
should not be tainted with the greed of Guru and those who invested in and got
burnt in his get rich scheme.

The word ‘risk’ rather than the word ‘stupid’ is which the Activist was
intending to use, I am sure?

This letter to the Editor is meant as a rebuttal to the poorly
penned/researched article referenced above and I hope it will be published in
its entirety and without editing.
