Aires Rodrigues post of January 25 Goanet Vol 8 issue 67 is disturbing. Why is the Chief Minister interfering in the running of this independent body?
It is a shame that Manohar Parrikar wishes to infiltrate the interfere in the affairs of the Lolayutka. This body should be independent of any influence from any person including the Chief Minister. It should by its very nature be able to even look into and prosecute the Chief Minister if he is found to be circumventing the laws of the land in any way for any reason. The Chief Ministers statement for imposing ridiculous fines against people making false claims is preposterous. This will dissuade persons, or as we call them in the west Whistle Blowers, from bringing legitimate claims of mismanagement and conduct against public officials fearing reprisals by way of such ridiculous fines. Manohar Parrikar, Please keep your hands out of this very important Office and allow the Lokayukta to appoint his own staff so that the very essence of the office is preserved for it to function as a viable and credible entity.
