Its first event, Formula North, was launched in May 2012 and was a competition in which students from universities around the world are required to design, build and compete with a life-size Formula style vehicle in engineering design and dynamic performance on track. The event was attended by 21 universities from Canada, USA and Finland, and was hailed as a successful event run by a team primarily female and under the age of 25.
