Goa Congress demands probe into land to CM’s sonPosted: 01 Mar 2013 09:18 AM
PSTThe Goa unit of the Congress party Friday filed a complaint with the state
vigilance department, demanding a probe into allotment of plots to Chief
Minister Manohar Parrikar’s son and about 40 others.“The land, on which the
plots are, does not have the forest department’s permission to be converted for
non-agricultural purposes. The town and country planning department has also
not given its approval to it. So, we have asked the vigilance department to
probe how the plots were allotted to his (Parrikar’s) son and others,” Congress
spokesperson Sudip Tamhankar told reporters after filing the complaint.Chief
minister Parrikar’s son Abhijat and about 40 others have been allotted plots on
a parcel of land at the Tuem industrial estate, some 25 km from here. While the
Goa chief minister declined to comment on the allegations, the Goa Small
Industries Association (GSIA), whose members were on the screening committee
constituted for plot allotment, have given a clean chit to Abhijat.Earlier on
Wednesday, Tamhankar likened Manohar Parrikar to former Karnataka chief
minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who was booked for illegal conversion of land
outside Bangalore and handing it over to his kin. Like Parrikar, Yeddyurappa
too belonged to the Bharatiya Janata Party, but later floated his own regional
party.Courtesy: twocircles
