[Goanet] Her Majesties customs

Just want to enquire Why Her Majesties Government (Customs) would want to 
charge duties on goods  of immigrants emigrating to the UK?I was charged duty 
on a Camera when I emigrated to the UK in 1968. When I emigrated to CANADA. 
they welcomed me with open arms and even asked me if I had goods to 
follow!Curious to know of fellow passengers experiences.Roy Pacheco
