Ana,
1) The minimum wages in Ontario is $10.25 an hour. A labourer on a construction
site makes $20.00 per hour. After working 40 hours in a week, s/he makes $30.00
for each hour. On Sundays and public holidays the pay is even higher.

2) Some of the top income earners here are plumbers, bricklayers and others
with trade skills.

3) There is dignity of labour here. As an example, a few weeks after arriving
in Toronto I went to the bar to buy a drink at a GOA dance. The bar man asked,
"What can I get for you Mr. Lobo?" I looked at the barman wondering how he knew
my name. Then I realized that the barman was the manager at my bank branch. The
manager was volunteering his services at the Lions Club. The money collected
would help their service projects. I have also volunteered at Habitat for
Humanity where you see people from CEO's to the jobless doing manual labour.

Thankfully, most immigrants are able to leave the stigma of manual labour in
the country they have just left.
