It is a pity that every time there is an election the hopes and aspirations of
the people of Goa seem to ebb and flow like waves in the ocean. The tide never
seems to break the barrier that would abundantly uplift the spirit and the life
of the Goan, who may I say are a meek and humble lot not really craving for
much but only hoping that their lot would become better and their yoke would be
lightened. Alas this state seems only a pipe dream which successive Governments
have not been able to satisfy. Instead, the Yoke has grown heavier and the
dream seems unrealizable. When the Parrikar Government was elected, the
people's hopes that there would be transparency and openness in the dealings of
the Government and that at last the era of corruption would soon come to an end
were soon dashed and the lot of the Goan has become even worse. It is a sad
state of affairs and one which should not have prevailed for five decades. It
is a state which if not checked now will lead to the eventual demise of the
state both financially and morally.

Now that we know how Mr. Parrikar and his Government are, the people of Goa
have to come together and insist that the Government stick to their pledges as
portrayed in their election manifesto. There should be demonstrations and
meetings with the various ministers and the Chief minister taking them to task
and challenging them to the extent of taking them to court for breaking their
promises to the people of Goa. If this does not work, then the people will, at
the next election make sure that none of the incumbents is reelected even if it
means electing the yet untried Goa Su-Raj party to power.
Maybe this home grown lot could be the solution to the long standing problems
of Goa.

In conclusion, may I thank Aires Rodrigues for constantly pointing out the
excesses of the Parrikar and previous Governments in their mismanagement of the
affairs of the state of Goa. I wish there were more Goans of the caliber of
Aires who are not afraid to point out the glaring irregularities in the
Government in as bold and truthful a manner. Let us hope that through his
efforts, some meaningful change will take place in Goa.

Keep up the Good work Aires! As the title says, the TRUTH HURTS. Let us expose
the truth as often as we can in order to hurt the Government into doing the
right thing for Goa and Goans.

Manuel ( Eddie) Tavares.
