The passing of the Unanimous resolution in the Goa Legislative Assembly to demand special status for Goa is the first credible move on the part of the Parrikar Government to steer Goa in the path of controlling its own destiny. I hope this resolution is not just a ploy by the Government to boost up its lack luster performance thus far, and that the resolution will be just the first step and be followed up by real action that will eventually lead to the attainment of special status for Goa. This is an important first step and by virtue of it being passed unanimously, shows that at least there is total consensus on this major issue.
The people of Goa deserve praise for pressing the issue and pressurizing the Government to act. We however must not let this matter to be put on the back burner as just a resolution as it is of paramount interest to Goa and Goans and the sooner the matter is taken up with the Central Government and resolved, the better it will be as time is of the essence. The longer the matter is delayed, the worse the situation in Goa will get. In this regard, I would like to thank Floriano Lobo and the GSRP for their efforts. Manuel (Eddie) Tavares.
