Though I was never a Poona resident, it was interesting to follow this thread because I knew many of the people mentioned.
If I may be permitte, however, may I try to fill up a lacuna left in this regard. There were three other families that were also quite well known there viz. the DIAS, D'GAMA and PINTO-PHILLIPS' Dr/ Alu Dias was a very popular physician and his brother, A.L. DIAS I.C.S., was Agriculture Secretary in the Central Govt. and, on retirement, Governor of West Bengal. D'GAMA's daughter, NINA GAMA MENEZES was the wife of Manoel Menezes, the first non-ICS to become Secretary of the Railway Board and mother of two other eminent Goans in the business world viz. Victor Menezes, ex-CITICORP and Ivan Menezes of DIAGEO. One of the PINTO-PHILLIPS daughter, Dr. Marina married known GOANETTER Tony Correia-Afonso. Just for information Marcos Gomes-Catao
