Goa's CM, Mr. Manohar Parrikar, on all news channels today, is seen
re-iterating that Dabolim Airport will continue as Civilian Airport even when
MOPA is commissioned. He is citing the contract, but we fail to understand
what contract he is talking about. To our belief, authentic authorities like
the ICAO and possibly all who can be considered authorities on civilian
airports have vociferously negated the feasibility of two civilian airports
for a small state like Goa through citing live examples. And the funny part of
it all is that our esteemed CM does not tell us how Dabolim as well as MOPA
will be in operation and wants us to believe what he says will happen, unless
he thinks that all others are stupid.

Unless and until our CM tells us how, and/or convinces us on actual figures,
not hypothetical ones, the basis upon which these two civilian airports will
remain functional, we are not likely to believe him. 'Goans for Dabolim only'
has demanded a 'public debate' on this issue and we want to believe that they
shall want to stand firm on this demand before any further work on MOPA is
sought to be executed.

The second declaration that our CM has made, today, is that it is foolish to
think that the Navy will move out of Dabolim or even spare an inch of land
from its possession. The question we would like to ask our CM is: 'Has any of
Goa's governments since 1961 had the guts to ask the Navy to scoot? Fr. Eremito
Rebello, in his public speech at the Lohia Maidan on 15 May, 2013, has clearly
asked the question if the Navy thinks that the land it is illegally occupying
at Dabolim , belongs to the Navy's father"

Though we are given to believe that MOPA was conceived by the CONGRESS Party,
we are firm in our belief that mergerist BJP has an ultimate hidden agenda in
promoting MOPA, in spite of it not figuring in its Manifesto - 2012, the agenda
to take Goa into Maharashtra through the back door, the front door having been
firmly shut on the merger, once and for all, after the Opinion Poll in 1967. If
Goans believe that the merge soft spot was the MGP's alone, they are very much
right. MGP, BJP, Congress, NCP, are all the same eggs in one basket. The
mergerist satraps. One look at the Congress in Goa will show that it's head,
which is seen above the water is that of the original MGP. Rane, Ravi Naik,
Subash Shirodkar, Narvekar et al, the mergerists. The Congress' is just the skin
to fool Goans. Matanhy Saldanha, who won the Cortalim seat for the second time
on the BJP ticket was vociferously against MOPA coming up and also had wanted
the Navy to vacate Dabolim, which according to him was occupying Dabolim
illegally. He even had documents to prove this, which documents are now being,
thankfully, relied upon by his wife, Alina, who is a cabinet minister in the
BJP's government. We tend to believe that Matanhy did not die a natural death
but was wished away as a painful thorn in the BJP's, or, the 'mergerist's
flesh in general. The BJP in Goa has not been given the mandate by Goans to
build MOPA airport and therefore, for this very simple reason, the BJP
Government of Manohar Parrikar must scrap MOPA altogether . If the BJP or any
other party in Goa wants MOPA that bad, then let them include this in their
respective manifestos in the next Assembly Elections and go ahead and win the
elections to form governments. Not otherwise. Goans, henceforth, will see to it
that no utility projects of this mammoth size , or of any considerable size,
like 'sky bus', 'mono rail' , 'sport city', 4-6 lane highways etc. which can
impact the very identity of Goans, shall be tolerated unless and until such
items are included in the respective manifestos of the contesting parties. The
rulling parties will be expected to only deal with improved GOVERNANCE of this
state and nothing else. If such projects are required, and if these were not
included in the respective manifestos, then there should be referendums which
will require 51 per cent mandate, the way it happens in Switzerland, the only
country hailed as the 'best' democracy in the entire world.

Let this be the futuristic criteria on which GOANs will vote for political
parties in order to avoid such mega scams as MOPA happening ever again. In
other words, as best said in Goa's Konkani Language, "GOEMKARAM'CHEAM
KAN'NANIM TEL GALUN GALUN KAN SUZLEAT ... Yem oxem godounk Goemkar furadak
diumche'nant". [Meaning: Goans have been fooled much too often, since 1961,
and they will not sit idle when sought to be taken for jolly good rides by
IIT smarts ever again].
