With Advocate Mahesh Sonak now having become Justice Mahesh Sonak, the scramble has just begun to grab his mountain of clients. The knives are out there. That plush three storeyed palatial Law office on Panaji’s 18th June Road will surely be on the forefront, all spruced up to accommodate clients at different levels, perhaps according to their importance and fees. But for those clients it may never be that care and compassion that they got from a very gentle Mahesh Sonak. Their only comfort will be that once stripped naked, they could run for cover into the Baron’s clothing showroom just next door.
In Mahesh Sonak, Goans have lost a good member of the Bar and the judiciary has devoured him. We hope that with this loss, the vultures are not sharpening their claws to make justice an illusion and a far cry. Every advocate needs to conduct himself in the footprints of Mahesh Sonak. I hope the Advocate General, as the Leader of the Bar, is listening and will for once prove that the dog’s tail does straighten. From a Mercedes to a Nano and from Scotch to limbo pani may be the way to go. Aires Rodrigues T1 - B30, Ribandar Retreat Ribandar - Goa - 403006 Mobile: 9822684372
