- B,
I have taken off and landed in much more interesting airports in Africa
including Mogadishu, Somalia. Mogadishu airport was also known as the
Smithsonian Air Museum of Africa as the runway, yes just one, was lined with
every model of aircraft from open air cockpits, to bi-winged, to Dakota's.
Needless to say, none of them were in working order.

The end of the runway was just 15 ft higher than the Indian Ocean. This meant
that at those extra high tides, the sea water could be on the runway.Prior to
one memorable take-off, the Soviet captain informed us that if there was a
runway he was scared of, it was Mogadishu.

Dabolim runway ends at a cliff with a 60 ft drop. I have fond memories of the
beach below.

I am not sure if the news release was timed exactly right but I am sure that I
do not want to, nor do I want any one else, to lie dead on the beach before
this report is considered genuine.

To answer your question though, rain, heat and wind is a good name for a rock
band. Rain and heat are not good reasons to build a new airport. Wind is.
