Uttarakhand government's chief secretary said, 'the government would amend laws to declare those missing as dead in a month's time in order to provide compensation!'
He also said, 'It takes seven years under normal process to declare a missing person dead under the civil code. But we will wait for only one month in order to provide compensation!!' While the top police official says, 'We are also not ruling out chances of some who could be found at a later stage through combing operations!' What will happen after the compensation is given to persons declared dead returns home alive or found alive - A million dollar question not answered by chief Secretary! Why? It appears that he has been asked only to hasten the process of paying compensations in light of upcoming elections!
