A scooter rider with helmet, also a 38 yr old woman in another incident in Mumbai, both reportedly died due hitting a pot hole! We need to prevent such horrific accidents. Every monsoon the state of roads become worse with impunity and at great costs! In Porvorim the authorities used to block access to CHOGM road during Christmas/ New Year season due tourist traffic rush. It is now 7 months that this has been continued due increasing traffic by leaps and bounds, causing immense hardship and danger to Porvorim residents by not permitting access to CHOGM road or turn towards Mapusa. Consequently access is made via the residential colony roads and via Holy Family Church junction! In addition to traffic snarls and constant danger due heavy traffic (no island, no traffic lights,police helpless to effectively regulate pedestrians and 5 streams of impatient vehicular traffic) cutting across the highway, are monsoon covered pot holed roads, cattle and cowdung! I refuse to believe this is Chief Ministers Parrikars idea!
Imagine this stupidity (this is too mild a word): Stream 1 & 2 speeding to and from Mapusa/Panaji on Highway. Stream 3- Cutting across streams 1 & 2 to get to CHOGM road. Stream 4- Cutting across 1& 2 to proceed to Mapusa. Stream 5- Holy Family Church (Compound as parking space,daily masses, Seminars, Weddings,Funerals, other activities)traffic must cut across 1& 2, 3 & 4. Citizens,school children, other pedestrians of Alto Porvorim and residents of Defence Colony mainly senior citizens, have no place to walk safely, and parking is a must for commerce and people to shop/have access. There have been many accidents and horrific near misses. The administration stubbornly just will not listen to the people's peaceful representations. Goa and our villages have been pushed to rapidly modernize with crony capitalism, rapidly converting this small beautiful State into an overloaded, dangerous concrete jungle. (In addition to the denizens of the animal kingdom being displaced, I can fortell that we will now increasingly be faced by the new hazard of monkeys). I cannot also not understand why traffic lights never work/are absent in Goa, as are fly overs?
