*Information Note* *A Guide to understanding “Globalisation” – An Introductory course at Goa University* by Prof. Amit Bhaduri, D.B.Bandodkar Visiting Chair in Political Economy, Goa University Globalisation has brought prosperity to some parts of the world but the period has also witnessed a rise in inequality not only across countries but also within countries. A country like India has within one hundred years come near full circle going from laissez faire to state control to liberalization. What have been the consequences of this ? *Prof. Amit Bhaduri’s* co-authored book in 1996 “The Intelligent Person’s Guide to Liberalisation” was an early response to this question. He has continued to engage on the issue of state and the market, and India’s development trajectory. This course brings to the audience his critique of globalization in an understandable manner. Prof. Bhaduri, is the D.B. Bandodkar Visiting Chair Professor in Political Economy at Goa University. He is a Professor Emeritus at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Professor of Eminence at University of Pavia, Italy. He received his Ph.D. from Cambridge University and has taught all over the world – in India, Europe and the Americas. In addition he has been research consultant to the ILO, UNCTAD, UNDP, UNIDO, among others. He has authored 5 books and published more than 70 research articles in international journals. This course is open to students of Goa University and members of the public on request.
