The Goa Government has decided to raise the retirement age of doctors at Goa Medical College from 62 to 65. One of the first beneficiary of this kind gesture by the Goa Government will be my friend of many years, the Professor of Radiology Dr. Mahesh Sardesai who was due to retire in February 2014. Dr Mahesh Sardesai is the father-in-law of Chief Minister’s elder son Utpal Parrikar.
This latest move by the Chief Minister is however not expected to raise a row like the appointment of his another relative Kurupati Dwarkanath Row to the very high constitutional post as the Chairman of Goa Public Service Commission. Row is a relative of Manohar Parrikar’s younger son Abhijit as well as the Chief Minister’s brother Avdhut. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar seems to be going out of the way to secure the interests of his family and coterie of friends. We were promised a Parivartan and good governance. Sadly over the last 16 months we have been witnessing utter nepotism and rampant corruption of the highest order, while Goa sinks getting further decayed by the day.
