There were many Goan tailors in Pune. On a visit to Pune I went to meet one family because I was told to go there by one of their relatives in Mumbai.
I was have a souvenir published by the Pune tailors' society on the occasion of the Feast of St. Francis Xavier, the patron of tailors. I was told the feast was celebrated in a grand way but not sure of it after 1980. I have attended the social organised by children of tailors in Toronto. There are quite a number of children of tailors who are keeping up the spirit. Whether the children of these children will continue the tradition is a matter ot time. In my building I had a Goan tailor's family. The tailor was very famous and he worked as "cutter", called by his subordinates. Because of him, the shop, Gunbow Tailors, in Fort, got lot of clients, some of them very rich. I had my first suit done at the shop. Mind you, it's wasn't free but I got a good discount (ha,ha). Gunbow Tailors was couple of lanes further south of AR Dias and Sons. Eugene Eugene
