*HOLY CROSS INSTITUTE* *SCHOOL FEAST*
*TRIUMPH OF THE CROSS* * * *14th September at Holy Cross Church, Cavelossim, was a quiet affair before 1991. The Fabrica celebrated the day with a mass without any pomp and festivities. Fr. Wolfango Coutinho registered the request of Mr. & Mrs. Franco, Cecilia Pereira and family to celebrate this day before his transfer. Fr. Erodiano, who came in his place in 1992 happily honoured their wish in fulfillment of their personal intentions.* *For the first time in September 1992, it was a grand affair to be rememberd. The band played ‘Alvorado’ at 5 a.m. heralding the pleasant dawn. The main altar was tastefully decorated with fresh flowers. The fire works ‘Fozne’, proclaimed loudly the event far and wide. The villagers suddenly awoke with a pleasant surprise.* *The local priests Fr. Renato Mendes, Fr. Eromito Rebello, Fr. Thomas A. Sequeira concelebrated the mass with Fr. Erodiano Fernandes, Students in compulsory School uniforms, staff, parents and parishioners participated in the ceremony, followed with a procession. 800 holy pictures, printed with special novena were also distributed for the first time. An adult from Carmona named Mr. Gurudas was baptized as Amar on that day. It was the will of God to resolve al controversies effectively.* *The Holy Cross Institute was established in 1962 and strangely enough had no School feast Day. The feast of the church is celebrated in May, during holidays. Mrs. Cecilia Pereira as the Executive member of the school P.T.A., convinced Mr. Edward Coutinho (H.M), Principal and Staff to celebrate this day as a School Feast, henceforth with a holiday. In 1993 and till date, Mrs. Cecilia supported, annually with Rs. 1,000/- voluntarily, and discretely to continue this tradition. For the celebration of this event, she established a seed found of Rs. 17,000/- and over and has willingly offered her mite ever since.* *In September 2000, she donated 20 artistic, metal crosses for all the rooms in the school. A Catholic Institute must necessarily have a visible sign and this was lacking. Hence in September 2001, once again the family presented to the School a beautiful place of worship at a cost of Rs. 20,000/-. The donors name was inscribed forcefully by the school authorities much against the will of the family. This activity was undertaken by her with trust in God and at the time when her family member was under long painful medical treatment.* *In September 2001 the feast preceeded with 9 days of Novenas joined by the whole school with special intention for the success of S.S.C students.* *Mrs. Pereira has also donated two wall black boards costing Rs. 900/- . Earlier she had gifted mike and sound horn still in use. She has often shown affection towards teachers and the school and she is lovingly remembered as a good benefactor.* *Her involvement has permanently established special devotion of novena to the Holy Cross on the 3rdFriday of every month in the Church at Cavelossim.* *The Management, Staff, Students, past and present pray for God’s blessings on their family. May all their dreams come true.* *This tribute of love and gratitude is a humble recognition of our sincere appreciation to Mr. & Mrs. Franco, Cecilia Pereira and fly., residents of Igrejaward, Cavelossim. * * * * * * * *Nelson Lopes Fr.
