Singer Francis de Tuem has been arrested under section 384 (extortion) and section 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code. He is alleged to have defamed Mickky Pacheco --- I don't think in Canada and some countries the police can arrest on defamation charges. The defamed person normally moves the court and files for damages. Lawyers on this forum can clarify if police can arrest on a complaint. Or, in this singer's case, did the police check the conversation to lay distortion charge and arrest him? Do tiatrists have to submit their scripts to police anymore as it was done in Mumbai years ago? The newspapers reports have conflicting firgures. In two reports in Navhind, one says "10 lakhs" and other "25 lakhs." Herald says "50 lakhs."
