Dear Tomazinho -bab, I respect you as a great orator , speaker, tiatrist and talented personality of Goa. Your reply in various newspaperss in Goa in regards to Francis de Tuem has not come upto the expectation by the public at large. You are been considered as father of Tiatrist , like any father always takes part of their children even they have done wrong, this is our old customs which we still follow. Your speech was a balance one and diplomatic which is not taken well by the tiatrists. I have contacted many of my friends tiatrists and musicians of the stage of tiatr , and all of them say that Toamazinho did not give his full support to Francis de Tuem but his tone was a bit on the side of Parrikar Govt and the Police which we could diagnose it. I sincerely request Tomatzinho to come out open in the field of stage or some Maidan and give his speech to the audience of Salcete especially, to know that you are with them and that the Tiart will continue to sing these kind of songs whatever the Politicians say. Nothing will be altered and they will continue to critize all those characters who are maligning the image of Goa and the Goans. Stephen Dias D.Paula Tiatrists, politicians should know their boundaries, says Tomazinho Lorry Travaso Roseferns Menino De Bandar Mariano Fernandes Tomazinho Cardozo BY ROQUE DIAS | NT MARGAO: Freedom of expression — it has to be within limits; there has to be political criticism, but one should not be hitting below the belt. There are some politicians, who cannot face the truth; the tiatrists and the politicians should know their boundaries well and each of them should not transgress with the power of money, muscle, and talent, that’s what the tiatrists said when questioned on the politicians’ interference in the age-old tiatr field. This daily contacted several tiatrists for their reaction on alleged political interference and political restrictions. While few tiatrists alleged politicial interfere in the tiatrs as they (politicians) fear about the tiatrists exposing them, which in turn could draw public criticism, other tiatrists confirmed that they were never threatened or warned by the politicians for presenting political tiatrs. Couple of the tiatrists, however, offered no reactions. Maintain the level Former president of the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) Tomazinho Cardozo is of the opinion that the tiatr is improving with popularity, and therefore it is the duty of the tiatrists to maintain the level. “I do not know what happened with Francis De Tuem and therefore not giving any comment on it, but generally tiatrists and politicians should know their boundaries,’’ he said, adding that “cheap-worded songs are sung on the stage and people welcome it, but decent the crowd does not approve of it.” Truth cannot be digested “Political interference is there in tiatrs. Politicians want positive publicity and cannot digest the truth being presented on the stage,’’ commented tiatrist Mariano Fernandes. He added that these very politicians use tiatrists during their election campaigns, meetings, and other celebrations, but when a song is sung on the stage, these very politicians take it in a negative sense. Fernandes said that his artistes, being mostly government servants, backed out under pressure and hence he could not continue with the staging of the first ever political tiatr. Freedom being curtailed Sucorina fame director Menino De Bandar also acknowledges that there is a political interference. “Politicians use us during the election time. What we sing on the stage is based on the information of the media. I feel that politicians are trying to curtail our freedom of expression,’’ he added. What indeed has compelled the tiatr directors to have a political song or two, is the demand from the viewers; these political songs have been crowd puller for many a tiatrs. “There is a lack of good directors. If the political songs are checked by the directors and okayed for singing on the stage, I think, the decent political songs would be presented on the stage and the standard of the tiatr would automatically go up,’’ a former tiatr director said. No political interference Famous tiatr writer and director, Roseferns, who wrote six political tiatrs to create awareness, said that there was no political interference and none of the politicians had objected to his six political tiatrs. Issue be settled amicably Another tiatrist, Lorry Travaso said that Pacheco and Tuem are not enemies, and added that leaving aside the personal grudge they should try to settle the issue amicably. “No tiatrist should go personnel,” stated Travaso and further opined that there could be some misunderstandings between Pacheco and Tuem. A noted tiatrist Jose Rodrigues said that if Tuem has uttered bad words against Pacheco and his children then, it should be considered as his mistake and it needs to be rectified.
