On 26 July, epaperoheraldo stated on page 5 that the "beleaguered residents of Moti Dangor and Talsanzor will have to keep their fingers until early next week..." but I hope with all my heart that they get to retain their fingers for the rest of their lives no matter what the decision of the Administrator of Comunidade, South. In the same issue, it states that "while in other offices the workers can take several breaks in between the breaks, in the schools teachers get a short break during the school recess. This can be very stressful." Not surprising in view of this back-breaking pace that must surely lead to a tremendous boost in productivity. Two days later, on page 2, it stated that elderly patients of the Margao hospital "have to literally walk on the second floor of the building when the elevator breaks down in times of power failures and hospital staff not attending to their needs". I am puzzled as to why the walking is restricted to the second floor of the hospital and the relevance of the elevator to this exercise, unless of course the elevator doubles up as a wheel chair -- an interesting technology that should be immediately patented. I am addicted to gram, in particular the various types sold at the Mapusa market near the old Aldona bus stand. It is therefore gratifying to read in the epaperoheraldo of 29 July that the village of Raia shares my passion to the extent of dedicating a special meeting in its defense as evidenced by the statement "the Raia gram sabha on Sunday Gram strongly objected to the move by government to construct bridge from Shiroda to Rachol..." presumably because the said construction would greatly disturb the peaceful consumption of my favourite lentil. In the edition of 31 July on page 18, I was greatly relieved to learn that toilets in India will be protected from Pakistani intrusion starting on the day after Valentine day since the newspaper clearly states that "India to open WC defense against Pak on Feb 15". Goa will presumably not be affected because from the photos published by JoeGoaUK on the state of Goa's public toilets, no additional defense against potential intruders is necessary.
