Posting this invitation of behalf of a fellow Goan.

Invitation to join an enterprise for the advancement of young people with
Special Needs.

We at Atmavishwas invite you to join us for a morning where we shall explore
together the problems and challenges that confront literally hundreds and
thousands of Special Needs children in Goa.

‘Atmavishwas’ means self-confidence! It is the aim of ‘Atmavishwas to increase
the self-esteem and self respect of young people with special needs through
opportunities to be socially active and contributive.

To learn more about what Atmavishwas is and does, join us for a meeting where
we will share with you narratives of our work, and open up opportunities where
you, the wider community, will, hopefully, discover and/or identify
skills/talents that you might wish to contribute to the crucial work of
releasing the potentials of our children.

Our meeting will include a time of community building, be given a first-hand
description of the philosophy of Atmavishwas’ work, listen in to a motivational
address by an eminent management person whose social conscience will surely
stir our mind and soul, and define for ourselves how we might involve ourselves
according to our distinct capabilities.

Atmavishwas has some stirring plans for the short-term and long-term future.
That is a journey which will need many more people to accompany us as we go
together with our young adults who are challenged.

We cannot possibly stand aside when people  who, for no fault of their own, are
often discriminated and relegated to secondary status in our society. They are
like all of God’s children worthy of our love respect, and support.

We extend to you the privilege of outreach to these special people - each so
gifted and waiting to rise to full potential. They are, in the final analysis,
our own sisters and brothers. Your participation can make a defining difference.

Join us with friends who may also be stirred to join our important work.

Atmavishwas’ means “self-confidence” and it is the aim of ‘Atmavishwas.

Its foundations
Atmavishwas is a Trust that was created in the year 2000 in Mumbai city. It was
created to be of service to people with disabilities. In 2003 Atmavishwas the
Vocational Training Centre was created out of a need for Vocational Training
for a young man, the son of a Trustee that would keep him occupied as well as
train him to be independent. The Centre then grew to 12 students and has been
very successful.

To expand its reach and offer more services, Atmavishwas moved to Goa in the
year 2005. Atmavishwas the Vocational Centre functions out of a Portuguese
mansion made available by the Trustees.

It is at present a Day Centre with the ultimate vision of becoming a
Residential Facility, a Home away from Home for People with intellectual
disabilities.
