Predicament of girl child All over India there is declining sex ratio. It is going to affect badly in near future looking for a marriage partner. Already people are importing brides from other parts of India and even as far as Philippines.May be there is an advantage at cross breeding for healthy off springs, but that is not weighing heavily as we may think
The crimes against the girl child are mindless. The girl child is not a welcome addition to the family, The birth, celebration, joy are low key, The discrimination starts at birth. May are killed in the womb, or strangulated by their own mothers for various reasons The proliferation of sex determination before birth is another dangerous trend to eliminate girl child. Those that survive the first attempt are made to die by poor nourishment, favouring the male offspring. The dowry even today continues to haunt the parents, They are gifted as Devadasis, married to elderly man or widowers, or sold to brothels or rich, as bonded slaves for sexual exploitation The paedophiles are another breed prowling on the defenceless innocent. Their education is the last priority. Child marriages is another evil of dehumanising the right of child for self-determination with reasoned consent. The attitude towards girl child in the society are daunting. The preference for the parents is too tie them in marriage as quickly as possible they can to safe guard their abuse, abductions, elopement etc Many a poor parent dreads the prospect of safety of the girl child in the male dominated society and considers her elimination as security to the household traumatic experience later The violent crimes against girls, even minors is a social malaise of the psychopathic, sick mind of the perpetrators .The power of brutal , unnatural sexual assaults is aimed at intimidation, submission and to demonstrate masculine strength, The crackdown on brothels, now dance bars may have denied an outlet for pent up energies. Even in the animal there is fierce competition for selection, but the brutality is less limited and less pronounced The liberated females are becoming bold in free movement but without protection of self against assaults The ease of transport communication and working women are easy targets, Harassment in work places continues with different tones, in spite of legislation in place. The milder forms of eve teasing ,in appropriate touch, ogling some say that the girls attract lecherous desires with indecent , revealing exposures in outfits. Their movement at odd hours even with male escorts is fraught with danger. The films on explicit sex connotations also raise the libido. The filth on the Internet and easy access in their confines of homes is having corrupting influence and so is print media using females for advertisement with the popular slogan (75% off) The mobiles too gives access .The reduced barrier of intermingling of sexes, alcohol, drugs, parties are providing opportunities for adverse results Then there are practices of exchange of partners, live in relationship, consensual premarital sex on assurances of marriage, gratification for monetary gain at school and college level fuelled by tourism boom. The divorces are on the rise at the drop of hat with zero tolerance at adaptation. Use and throw, instant coffee, or food principles are being applied for marriage situations. The western influence on the sanctity, traditions, customs and values are fast being eroded With lax moral values, declining sex ratios, closing of brothels and dance bars an euphemism, no fear of deterrents, delays and cost of legal remedy, ambiguous legislation, interpretation and implementation, police inability, willing or motivated, Internet proliferation without controls, shame and disgrace attributed to the female victim , indecent advertisement content depicting women as loose character waiting to be pounced etc do not enhance the position and protection of female in the society Nelson Lopes Chinchinim.
