In 2008 Goa’s then Advocate General Mr. Subodh Kantak had filed two defamation cases against me.
This week he filed an application seeking to withdraw the 15 crore defamation case. In his application he submitted before Panaji Civil Judge Senior Division Mrs. Kshama Joshi that he was a Senior Advocate and practicing in the High Court and that due to his busy schedule and professional engagements he finds it difficult to proceed with the case he had filed against me. What an excuse! Do we infer that he was not busy in 2008 when he was the Advocate General and had filed the case? After the issue of the exorbitant fees being paid to the Advocate General was highlighted, Mr. Subodh Kantak initiated two defamation cases against me. One case from the JMFC’s court moved to the High Court and later to the Supreme Court which later came to be dismissed by the JMFC after Mr. Subodh Kantak failed to appear for the hearings of the case he had himself filed. In the other which was pending before Judge Kshama Joshi and is now dismissed as withdrawn, Mr. Subodh Kantak had sought from me Rs 15 crores by way of compensation and had vowed to use the money for charitable causes like old age homes, orphanages and towards the welfare of animals. Instead of choosing to pursue the cases, he fled from them with great élan! I am being advised by many to now sue Subodh Kantak for filing these malicious cases which I had to defend for over six long years. But I have decided to close this chapter and move on. I may have been put through a lot of inconvenience by these two cases, but what disturbs me more is that Mr. Subodh Kantak who was the First law Officer of the State was responsible for recklessly wasting a lot of precious judicial time. Making a mockery of the Courts when thousands are lined up and waiting for justice. If anyone ever intends filing a defamation case they should seek to know from Subodh Kantak about his personal trauma encounted in filing for defamation. I guess Subodh Kantak must have realized that he was only getting further defamed as the truth was unraveling. Subodh in Sanskrit means ‘sound advice’. May it prevail.
