To, The Editor
Gomantak Times Panjim Kindly publish this letter in the Letter to the Editor column. Thanks Stephen Dias D.Paula Mob: 9422443110 FIRE ARMS NO CLAIMANTS IN POLICE STATIONS IN GOA. I am license holder of a gun 0.22 barrel and every time during the elections, I sincerely deposit the gun as per the rules in the Police station at Panaji. I have also noticed that the area and the room which is deposited all these guns are in shabby condition and that these guns get damaged as they are shelved on top of each other and no maintenance is done during that period. I have brought to the notice of several Collectors of Goa, to create a decent room to safeguard these arms to avoid any damage, but none of them could come to our rescue and grievances. Now, since one of the local daily published today, ( 4.9.2013), that there are “No claimants for fire arms deposited at Police Stations” , I have my own comments into this episode; People forfeiting or collecting their guns after depositing in the various Police Station in Goa, as per the orders from Magistrate that all the license orders of guns needs to deposit their guns on account of election etc, does not come well to the owners of the license guns holders. Now, it appears that there is no use having them at home because either the licensee cannot even kill a dog, a pig or any animal in that matter because it is against the law. What is the use of holding a gun after making huge payment fees to the Government treasury? It is better that Government auction them if there are no claimants to collect their guns, and the amount could be deposited into their account, as they are already senior citizens who have acquired these guns during Portuguese regime. CM must come to their rescue for financial help instead of giving doles for different schemes from the government treasury resources or exempt them depositing their guns every time during Assembly, Parliament and Panchayat elections purposes.
