Cuncolim IIT is non polluting The prestigious I IT at Cuncolim is continuously embroiled in controversy. Every time new reasons are invented and there is no constancy of valid arguments, It is ludicrous to reserve seats for locals and also teaching posts Candidates must compete with others those who are qualified as per norms The fact that 50% of the seats are set aside for Goans on merit is in itself an achievement. Entry at IIt is an reward of intellectual merit. We are unaware about lakhs students shell out in donations just for a seat elsewhere Only the rich can afford to educate their children without merit on the strength of donations and capitation fees, Two of my colleagues with third class at Inter science became doctors, now practicing, in Goa through this route Politicians are unable to rig merit . Mediocracy at these temples of learning will not do. It appears that people are misguided on facts by those who are desiring of being relevant, The belt of Chinchinim. Assolna Velim, Cuncolim saw highly qualified ,educated people mostly from Cuncolim. There were no reservations either in Educational Institutes anywhere, nor job preferences for so called sons of the soil, Educationist must shun the temptation for regionalism and parochialism per se In the immediate past Goan students entered only 25 seats reserved in Regional colleges by dint of merit alone. Do not doubt about the capacity of the present generation to stand the test of . Is admission at GMC, Engineering Colleges at Fatorda,GEC, Padre Conceicao college, Birla Institute of Technology Goa Institute of Management Bed Colleges,Law Colleges B. Pharm,Nursing Institutes, Shiroda Colleges of Engineering and Homeophaty is subject to such local sentiments? By this mindless attitude of objections for objections sake, we will deny the advantage our own children to study at these prestigious Institutes of repute

The hill at Panzorconni is degraded by settlements by a coterie keeping out others selectively. Where were the protests to safeguard the interests of locals?. It was a rare site, when huge migratory birds used to nestle on the hill and have now been driven out .The industrial estate has been polluting the environment, guzzling power, causing more harm ever than imagined. The Mehta strip in spite of opposition has come to stay and so is Zuari Agro Chemicals. The wells are closed at Cuncolim as well as Sancoale .Illegal Mining has adversely affected the environment beyond compare. The casinos corrupt youth, introducing mafias, sex tourism, gambling and pollute the rivers. There was no demonstration or mass protest for reservations. Communidade property has been plundered by outsiders in connivance with our sons of the soil, Further large parts of land in Goa is in possession of outsiders, so much so our own people will be forced to purchase from them in the near future. How many of the locals occupy the slot at the industrial estate at Cuncolim.? Were there no industrialists or entrepreneurs then, or there were no leaders worth the salt? In fact allotted sites have been transferred to the outsiders at Industrial estates, The playground, cemented roads, fish and vegetable markets, community hall ,bus stand, water canal at Bhiunsa have made their appearance for the good of the Cuncolim, vehement agitations not withstanding What are the ills that are prevailing at such institutes aforesaid mentioned that have raised alarm bells? Spell out acceptable concerns not just hypothetical imaginations Goans outside and educationists are aghast at the hue and cry raised against IIT even by well-informed persons joining the bandwagon, as if it is worst thing that will happen to the village, Earlier the football academy proposal at the site was also abandoned Only the tenants, communidade and shareholders, private owners can have legitimate grievances. One can demand appropriate compensation The land has already been acquired and only its use is the point in question. May we ask, what is the best project that is being envisaged at the site?
