The Right to Information Act was enacted to ensure transparency and
accountability in public life. So all the NGO’s should also come under the
purview of RTI regardless of the quantum of funding and any other support
they receive from the government. The nomenclature of ‘substantial funding’
should not come in the way as a safe shelter for the NGO’s to try and
circumvent the RTI Act to keep details of their affairs and activities
under wraps.
