CORRUPTION NOT TO END It appears as if the issue of corruption is new, Both the Congress and BJPare going hammer and tongs on the corruption issues. Each one is capitalising on the miss deeds of the other. Corruption has always existed in the past, but that in the high places was never exposed, as of to day. The political parties are adopting holier than thou attitude .The root cause of corruption is election process and expenditures No honest person can hope to enter the process without muscle and money power. Despite the check on expenditure and strict monitoring, the limits are breached and what is accounted for is a pittance Some have refrained from filing election expenditures, which is mandatory. The demands of the voters are sky rocketing, as only once in a while opportunity. The freebies include TV, washing Machines, computers, mobiles. Scooters and bikes, you name them. The voters are mesmerised and pampered up to date of elections. The donors are unaccounted for and sudden rise in essentials like onions, sugar vegetables are use to fuel pockets of the politicians to meet election expenditures
The mass movement by Anna Hazare has caught the attention of the citizens like never before. The support was massive ever witnessed. The politicians are master tacticians and when the storm subsides they are back to their old games. The RTI activists, media specially the electronic media has barred them naked with facts and figures. The RTI Act has been a great handle to unearth the sordid facts of corrupt ways used to enrich themselves personally. Corruption has become all pervasive touching the most ordinary citizen in their day to day life Corruption is at best can be reduced but will never be eliminated under the present system of winning elections. Fear, Transfers, promotions, are tools to dissuade honest employees The politicians are willing to oblige, because there are brokers in the corridors of power, who demand their pound of flesh, as nepotism is the mother of all corrupt practices The greed for the shortest route to riches is daunting and the moto is to make money while in power The magnitude of corruptions as exposed is mind boggling for ordinary citizen’s to understand the depth and intricacies involved The only way to make a difference is to continuously change the political parties entrenched in the system and can continue to dominate at will. When there is a change, the first opportunity is utilised at witch hunting. Nevertheless there is fear of being exposed thread bare, when there is a change in Govt Hence It is only change that frightens the politicians and can keep them on their toes and is a hope to reduce corruption Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
