May I request you to kindly carry the same in your esteemed Media With warm Regards, Geetika Geetika Goyal State Head-Goa Confederation of Indian Industry 502, Unitech City Center, M. G. Road, Panaji, Goa 403 001 Tel: 0832 - 2422790 / 2422796 / 8806133455 E-mail: <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected] CII ON SCRAPPING OF UK VISA BOND Mumbai, 5th November 2013 : The Confederation of Indian Industry welcomes the move by UK government to withdraw the pilot scheme of 3000 GBP visa bonds for visitors from 6 countries including India. CII had been following the discussions in UK ever since June 2013 when the scheme got to be known and had gone out with a strong industry voice against the bonds and had raised the issue at a number of Ministerial meetings held with UK Ministers. The UK Government representatives in a meeting with CII members in the UK confirmed that the students’ visa applications are not going to be included in the number restrictions for immigration. This is indeed good news for Indian students as well as the UK universities that had seen a drop of 25% registrations from India alone in the last one year on account of rise in tuition fees and growing visa restrictions. The scrapping of the idea of ‘pilot Scheme’ is a welcome relief even for the tourists and families travelling to UK each year and at the same time for the UK tourism industry which would have felt the brunt had the scheme got under way. The UK gets 339,000 visitors from India each year earning UK a revenue of GBP 333 million each year (Indian visitors to UK spend an average of £982 each) ( source, tourism alliance, UK) CII laudes the decision of UK government as it is good for trade between the two countries. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------- Disclaimer This message, including any files transmitted with it, is for the sole use of the intended recipient and may contain information that is confidential, legally privileged or exempt from disclosure under applicable law.
