Exhibitions galore Goa has become another favourite avenue for exhibitions, They are now spread in new surroundings notably Talegao, Porvorim etc.. The frequency of such gatherings is becoming a routine, No more are they ushering in important festivals, but are regular shows for sale without any uniqueness or newness in product displays. It helps the authorities to rake in extra revenues, to supplement their income and augment their budgets .The traders no more exert any pressures for the loss of income. Many of the stalls in the exhibitions are occupied by local businessmen. It is convenient and advantageous than those coming from outside the state in terms of accommodation, transport etc .For the crowds that throng such variety of shows, it serves as a day out of routine for relaxation.May be the products are all displayed at a glance. Such exhibition are a drain on unplanned, impulsive expenditures. It is noteworthy that most of the traders are the very same ones doubling up and rotating under the banner of different labels of exhibitions. Only the name of the exhibition is different. Considering the rentals they have to shell out for 3 to 7 days for the facilities and participating in these Mela's, it is but natural that they have to pinch the customers to stay afloat and make some profits The visitors hardly ever compare the prices, which are way beyond the market prices. Foe exmaple 100 gms of raisins cost Rs 30, instead of Rs 18 in the market .The so called new products launches is a myth. May be a counter or two is attracting with some innovative products , not available in the market, as of now The entrance is advertised as being free, but one exhibitions charged Rs10 for air condition comfort. It failed to attract the crowds that throng other exhibitions Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
