MOVE TO APPOINT DNYNESHWAR PEDNEKAR AS
DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION ABANDONED
The current Director of Education Gajanan Pednekar, whose extended term was
expiring on 4th November, has been given another three month's extension in
service. This brings to an abrupt halt fresh moves to appoint the Mr.
Dnyneshwar Pundalik Pednekar, Principal of Smt. Chandrabaga Tukobha Naik
Higher
Secondary School, Curchorem, to the post of Director of Education.
It may be recalled that the Goa Public Service Commission had in July 2002
recommended the name of Dnyneshwar Pednekar for the post of Director of
Education but on account of the alleged allegations against him the matter
was kept in abeyance by the Government of Goa after Adv. Aires Rodrigues
filed a Public Interest litigation before the Panaji Bench of the High
Court challenging the recommendation of the GPSC.
The government reportedly was under intense pressure from the RSS elements
within the BJP to appoint Mr Dnyneshwar Pednekar to the coveted post but
Government sources also realised that Mr Pednekar was now overage for the
post, a fact which was brought to the attention of the High Court by Adv.
Aires Rodrigues in his petition.
In his petition Adv. Aires Rodrigues had submitted that appointments made
to the high positions in the Department of Education should be persons
whose integrity is not in doubt and who do not commit any unscrupulous or
criminal acts as otherwise the confidence of the public in the education
system in
Goa will itself be eroded.
Adv. Rodrigues had submitted that the records prove that the conduct of Mr.
Dnyneshwar Pednekar in not only changing his own date of birth but more
importantly, also changing the date of birth of his daughter by fraudulent
and unscrupulous acts and making false declarations to derive advantage
thereby, shows that he is a person whose integrity is not only doubtful but
is capable of changing or falsifying records to suit his purpose and to
derive advantages therefrom.
Meanwhile, Adv. Aires Rodrigues has welcomed the Goa Government's decision
not to appoint Mr Dnyneshwar Pednekar as Director of Education and has
expressed the hope that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will in future
follow the rule of law and the provisions of the Indian Constitution as
otherwise citizens would be forced to expose the illegal acts of the
Government through the courts in Public Interest.
