-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 NewVersion Parted from the current 1.8.2 to any of 1.8.3 through the newest 1.8.7 fail to Compile, unable to find readline. Same for doing ./configure in a generic parted tarball on GoboLinux -- but not on Ubuntu, where the source tarball works. I've found a patch that removes - -Wl,--as-needed from parted's configure test (which makes the configure find Readline as expected) <http://bugs.lunar-linux.org/view.php?id=259>; a patch to that effect was applied before parted 1.8.3's release, only to be reverted before release on the judgment that it was the Readline build that was broken <http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/parted-devel/2007-March/001392.html>. Apparently this may involve libraries that libreadline needs in order to work: any of libtermcap/terminfo(tinfo) or even ncurses(which is the lib found by parted 1.8.2's configure on gobolinux; later versions of parted find libtinfo to provide certain necessary symbols, which it does contain, but it interacts badly with -Wl,--as-needed and the Readline build...). Unfortunately GoboLinux has a pretty standard recipe for Readline and I didn't find any details of exactly how those system packages should be built differently in order to make packages that depend on Readline, such as newer Parted, work as expected.
This "Does not build" is not one of the bugs listed in the parted bugtracker <https://alioth.debian.org/tracker/index.php?group_id=30287&atid=410685>. So, how to approach this problem?
