Hi. I would first of all like to congratulate all of you on not just
being "yet another Linux distro". You guys have contributed so much
more than the vast majority of distributions out there and I wish you
and your distribution well.

For your benefit, I would like to draw your attention to another
project, namely Zero Install. This project has the ability to
automatically fetch and install dependencies. It also has other
requirements for it's binaries that match your requirements, such as
the binary must be portable and in a common archive format (though
Zero Install can use other package formats).

Hopefully using Zero Install would also help you distribute a wider
variety of up-to-date software to your users, which would make your
distribution even more appealing. I say this because Zero Install and
Autopackage plan to co-operate in order to create packages which can
be used with either method of installation, which could provide even
more packages that could be run on your system. Even if you choose not
to use Zero Install, maybe the shared format could be used with your
distribution and symbolize a whole new level of co-operation between
installation methods.

As for other features, it has digital signatures, automatic updating,
non-root installation and more. I'm sure this could be tightly
integrated with your system.

If I am wrong and this idea is completely useless to you, I apologize
sincerely for wasting your time.

Thanks,
Matt
