Hello GoboLinux folks,

My apologies to everyone who already read this - it is about the
DragonflyBSD,
or more accurately, Ravenports. It is not really related to GoboLinux per
se,
after all, it is the BSD which has as mascot the BSD-Devil with a nasty
weapon
Tux does not like :) (the GoboLinux Tux is well armoured behind that cloak
...),
but more seriously, I think that maybe those of you who have missed this,
may
be interested - I will quote only what I found relevant to Gobolinux from
there:

> multiversioning (you can use python2 and 3 simultaneously,
> php 56 and 71 simultaneously, perl 5.24 and 5.26 simultaneously
> etc, and build packages for all versions in the same build
> instead of picking just one default)

The old PC-BSD has had a vaguely similar approach if I remember correctly
(PC-BSD is now called ... TrueOS; I found the name PC-BSD better but
anyway).

The relevant mail was from here if you want to have a look:

  http://lists.dragonflybsd.org/pipermail/users/2017-September/313580.html

Ravenports is at:

  http://ravenports.ironwolf.systems/

On that page, the multiple versions can be found by jumping to the page by
seeking "Concurrently installed versions".

Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about any of the BSDs so I can not
say anything more about any of this. I usually already failed at the
installation steps when it came to the BSD flavours ... when trying to
slice the HDD to have BSD understand where it can install itself. I always
found cfdisk on Linux a lot easier to use ... in the pre-GTP days at
the least. :-)

Anyway! I really only wanted to point towards that even BSDs learn about
GoboLinux, sort of, years lateron. ;-)
