Adding custom :foo commands is trivial, it's just a matter of exporting an api to do register them (the api exists already, but it's not exported and I would use the occasion to improve it). I should have time to do it tomorrow and document an example.
About the license: yes, I am still deciding. As I wrote, Mozilla Public License looks promising, but I don't know many projects using it (beyond firefox and thunderbird) and I don't know how it is perceived in a. Go community b. Open source community in general c. Commercial companies.
