PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
Tribunal de Justi�a do Par� vai julgar os recursos no processo do massacre de Caraj�s.
O Tribunal de Justi�a do Estado do Par� julgar� no pr�ximo dia 19 de novembro os recursos de apela��o no processo que apura as responsabilidades dos policiais militares no Massacre de Eldorado de Caraj�s.
O Massacre de Caraj�s ocorreu no dia 17 de abril de 1996, quando a Pol�cia Militar do Estado do Par�, ao tempo do ent�o governador Almir Gabriel, matou 19 trabalhadores rurais Sem Terra que estavam participando de uma marcha. O massacre foi realizado na rodovia PA 150, curva do "S", munic�pio de Eldorado de Caraj�s.
Em agosto de 1999 foi realizado um julgamento, em que os policiais foram absolvidos, mas, acatando recurso dos advogados do MST e do Minist�rio P�blico, o Tribunal de Justi�a do Par� decidiu anular aquele j�ri.
Outro julgamento foi realizado em maio de 2002 e resultou na condena��o do coronel M�rio Colares Pantoja e do capit�o Raimundo Jos� Almendra Lameira tendo sido absolvidos todos os demais oficiais, graduados e pra�as que participaram da opera��o.
O MST decidiu n�o participar desse segundo j�ri, apontando que diversos fatos colocaram-no sob suspeita de favorecer a absolvi��o dos r�us e a impunidade nos crimes contra os trabalhadores rurais.
Contra a absolvi��o dos 128 policiais militares o Minist�rio P�blico apresentou recurso de apela��o pretendendo anular o julgamento, possibilitando a realiza��o de novo tribunal do J�ri. Contra a condena��o dos coronel Pantoja e do capit�o Lameira os advogados da defesa entraram com recurso de apela��o querendo a anula��o do julgamento e realiza��o de novo j�ri.
O julgamento dos recursos ser�o realizados no dia 19 de novembro, pela 2� C�mara Criminal do Tribunal de Justi�a do Estado do Par�, tendo como Relator do Desembargador R�mulo Nunes.
Entendemos que apenas a press�o popular, da opini�o p�blica e da sociedade civil organizada, pode alterar esse quadro de injusti�as e impunidade.
Convocamos todas as pessoas, entidades, personalidades, parlamentares, artistas, intelectuais, enfim, todos aqueles comprometidos com a causa da Justi�a, a enviarem cartas, fax, correios eletr�nicos e manifestos para as autoridades abaixo listadas, exigindo o fim da impunidade no Estado do Par� e que SEJA MANTIDA A SENTEN�A QUE CONDENOU OS OFICIAIS e que os demais policiais absolvidos SEJAM SUBMETIDOS A NOVO JULGAMENTO.

Court of Justice of Par� will sentence appeal in the lawsuit of the massacre in Eldorado dos Caraj�s.
On November 19th the Court of Justice of Par� will sentence the appeal in the lawsuit that is investigating the participation of military policemen during the massacre in Eldorado dos Caraj�s.
The massacre in Eldorado dos Carajas took place on Aprill 17th, 1996 when during the government of Almir Gabriel in Par� the military police killed 19 landless rural workers who were participating on a march. The massacre occurred in the "s" turn of the PA 150 road, in the Eldorado dos Caraj�s County.
In August 1999 the policemen were acquitted, but obeying the appeal of the lawyers of the MST and the Public Ministry, the Court of justice in Para decided to invalidate the sentence.
Another trial occurred in 2002 and resulted in the conviction of coronel M�rio Colares Pantoja and the captain Raimundo Jos� Almendra Lameira, all the other career and rank and file officers who participated in the action were found innocent.
The MST has decided not to participate in the second trial, pointing to several factors which raised suspicions that would have favoured the defendants for a "not guilty" verdict, maintaining the impunity of crimes against rural workers.
Against the acquitting of 128 military policemen the public Ministry presented an appeal trying to cancel the verdict and requesting another trial with another jury. Against the conviction of coronel Pantoia and captain Lameira the attorneys filled an appeal requesting the cancellation of the sentence and a new trial.
The trial of the appeal will be held in the 2nd Criminal Chamber of Justice in the state of Para on November 19thit will be conducted by the High Court judge R�mulo Nunes.
We understand that this injustice and impunity can only be changed through pressures from public opinion and the organised civil society.We call people, organizations, parliamentarians, artists, intellectuals all those compromised with justice to send letters, faxes, emails and manifestos to the authorities listed bellow demanding the end of impunity in the state of Par�, for THE CONVICTION OF THE OFICIALS TO BE MAINTAINED and for the other officials who were found innocent to be sent TO A NEW TRIAL.
