Try adding &output=json_xml to your query string. This should return both the JSON and XML. Depending on how you're using the REST/JSONP output, you may have to do a little parsing on the xml (i.e., it's escaped and not really divided up for each entry), but considering the other stuff you're doing with your toolkit, I suspect you'll have no problem!
