I have a question about the Google AJAX Language API and apps that may call it. First of all, let me make it clear that I understand, per the Terms of Use, that the API can only be used for "services that are accessible to your end users without charge (i.e. the entire service offered by you as well as specific components thereof must be accessible to your end users without charge)". I understand and respect that, but that leads to some follow-on questions.
1. Imagine that I produce an application that is free and it provides some utility to my users. Now suppose that I have some other functionality that also has value that I normally charge for. Is there any reason that I cannot implement my value-added functionality as a plug-in that works in the same environment as the free app with the Google API AND charge my users to use the plug-in, which complements the other functionality in the APP? Remember, the app with the Google functionality are available for free and they provide real end-user benefit; I just want to charge for providing an incremental benefit from a technology that I own. I am trying very hard to build a sustainable business model while staying within the limitations specified in the Terms of Use. In your experience or to the best of your knowledge, is this scenario allowed under the Terms of Use? 2. I have not seen anything public, but I have heard rumors that it is possible to license the Google AJAX Language API under different terms specified in a private license agreement with Google. In particular, these terms would allow the API to be used in a paid application or service. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? 3. I suspect that most people will use the Google AJAX Language API in conjunction with a website or web service. Great. Is there any reason to believe that the API cannot also be used in a PC or mobile app that calls through to the API and provides enhanced functionality whenever the user is connected to the web. This is not expressly prohibited by the Terms of Use, so I presume that it is legitimate. I just want to be sure that I am not doing anything that is not permitted. Thanks for your help, everyone. Google people, I would especially appreciate hearing from you.
