Google has implemented an approximate 2,000-character limit on the length of URIs submitted to their servers. You can therefore submit via the GET method strings which, when uri encoded, are less than 2,000 - the length of the path - the length of the rest of the query string. It should be noted, though, that if you need a longer string, you can write your own interface which would utilize XMLHttpRequest to submit a uri-encoded string of up to 5,000 characters using the POST method via your own server-side proxy.
