You can currently retrieve 4 or 8 results via the Search API using the searcher's .setResultSetSize method in the JS API or sending the rsz parameter on the RESTful side of things. In either case, possible arguments are small (for 4 results) or large (for 8 results). If you're using a filtered CSE, there is an additional option for that, but you're not doing that.
That said, and without being able to see your code, if you're only retrieving 2 results from the API, it may be that the API is only going to return 2 results for your query. Jeremy R.
