If you read the documentation, you can find out about the SearchOptions object, 
which you can use to specify various options - including the "expand mode" of 
the results.  The answer to your second question is an emphatic yes. How you 
would do it, though, would depend very much on your application. You can use 
Javascript to pull parameters out of the url. Alternatively, if you are doing 
anything server-side, you can include the Javascript execute call there or even 
skip the JS altogether and use the "Flash and Other Non-Javascript 
Environments" side of the API.
