I'm working on a thesis on computational linguistics. I want to
propose a process that would require a program to generate two Google
searches when it encounters a noun. The searches would be in these
formats (for example):
"of the man"
"the man's"
and the program would calculate the ratio of hits obtained (so it
would not work with a limit on the number of hits). So the application
is purely statistical.

I had assumed that I would be able to use the SOAP search API, but
find that it has been discontinued. Two questions:
Is there a currently available API that will meet my requirements?
How might I get authorisation from Google to use it (just for research
purposes)?

Any help would be very much appreciated.
