My guess is that Google is reading the UA string and realizing that you're using a script. Since the general TOS prohibit accessing news.google.* from anything other than a web browser or RSS reader, etc., they're probably blocking you. If I were you, I would investigate the Feeds API. It can check the feed for you, and you would be within the TOS to get it from the API via a script.
