If I recall correctly, 250 has been the max since the API was started. I don't think it will do more than that. But frankly, even if you could obtain more than 250 entries via the API, I would probably still suggest avoiding the API altogether. The fact is, the TOS have been quietly changed by Google to say that the deprecation policy - which mandated that Google would maintain the service for at least three years after announcing its deprecation - will be void after April 2015. This means that, come April, Google may choose to discontinue the service at any time, with or without warning.
This is obviously problematic for production applications. Your options, then, are to check out Yahoo!
