I can't see that any RPCs are ever made from your client application to the server. How are you testing http://showsort.appspot.com/showsort/list ? You can't follow that directly from a browser (i.e. put it in your address bar), because GWT RPC does not support HTTP GET requests - it will give you some error code back like a 400 or a 500.
Can you reproduce any of this on the local dev_appserver? If so, then you can use a debugger to track down the problem. If not, then you should add some code to your GWT client to track down why it appears the RPC is not being initiated.
